A2.5. Three Dimensional Concrete Structure

Problem Description

A dynamic analysis of a three dimensional concrete structure is presented in this example

(Figure 2.5.1).

Geometry, Properties and Loads

The cross section of vertical beam members (columns) is square 50cmx50cm and of

horizontal members is rectangular 30cmx60cm.The foundation of the structure is strip

footing with dimensions 30cmx100cmx100cmx50cm. Modulus of elasticity and Poisson

ratio of the material is 29GPa and ν=0.20, respectively, while the ground stiffness is

300kPa/cm. Two cases of dynamic analysis have been employed, taking into account the

self-weight of structure (ε

c

=25.0kN/m

3

). According to the first one, no diaphragms are

considered in any floor while on the second case diaphragms in every floor are employed.
