A2.3. Three Dimensional Steel Frame Structure

Problem Description

A three dimensional steel frame subjected to vertical loading is examined (Figure A2.3.1).

Geometry, Properties and Loads

The cross section of columns is IPE-450 and of inclined and horizontal members is IPE-330.

Footing’s dimensions are 150cmx150cmx50cm for each vertical member (column) and

ground stiffness is 100kPa/cm. Self-weight is taken into account (ε

s

=78.5kN/m

3

) and

inclined members are subjected to distributed vertical load of 10kN/m. Modulus of elasticity

of the material is 210GPa and Poisson ratio is 0.30.

Assumptions

During analysis, shear deformations are neglected. Section properties are automatically

recovered from the cross section library of ScadaPro and have been presented in previous

example.
