A2.4. Three Dimensional Composite (Steel & Concrete) Structure

Problem Description

A three dimensional composite structure forming an octagon shape and subjected to vertical

loading is examined (Figure A2.4.1).

Geometry, Properties and Loads

The cross section of internal horizontal steel members is IPE-500 (Group A, B) and the

dimensions of horizontal concrete beams’ rectangular cross-section are 30cmx60cm. Every

column (Group C) has a Concrete Circular Cross Section of 60cm diameter with ends fixed

within ground.

All steel beams of Group A forming a square shape are subjected to vertical uniformly

distributed load of 10kN/m. Modulus of elasticity and Poisson ratio of the material for steel

and concrete members are 210GPa, 0.30 and 29GPa, ν=0.20, respectively.

Assumptions

During analysis, shear deformations are neglected. Section properties are recovered from the

cross section library of ScadaPro and are presented in Tables A2.4.1, A2.4.2 and A2.4.3.
