B2.2. Skew Plate under Transverse Loading

Problem Description

A two dimensional skew plate, subjected to vertical loading is examined (Figure B2.2.1).

Geometry, Properties and Loads

The plate of dimensions 6.0m x 8.48[∟6.0]m has 30cm thickness and 45

o

skew angle.

Material is reinforced concrete of modulus of elasticity 29GPa and Poisson ratio ν=0.20.

Τhe concrete strength class is C20/25 while the class of reinforcing steel is B500C. The

centre distance of the reinforcement from the plate edge is 20mm. Τhe short sides of the

plate are fixed while the long sides are free. Τhe plate is subjected to its self-weight

and to a uniformly

distributed variable load 5kN/m

. Two cases of loading combinations are examined. In the

first one (Comb1) the value of the participation factor of all loads is equal to 1.0. In the

second case (Comb2) the participation factor of permanent loads is equal to 1.35 while the

corresponding one of the variable load is equal to 1.50.

Assumptions

During analysis, Kirchhoff theory of plates has been adopted.
