A2. Static / Dynamic Analysis of Frame Structures

A2.1. Steel beam under torsional loading

Problem Description

A cantilever beam, subjected to concentrated torsional moment at its free end is examined

(Figure A2.1.1).

Geometry, Properties and Loading

The cantilever beam of length L=4.0m has a cross section of IPE-100. Modulus of elasticity

of the material is 210GPa and Poisson ratio is 0.30. The applied torsional moment at the

beam’s free end is Mt=10kNm.

Figure A2.1.1. Steel beam under torsional loading.

Assumptions

Section properties are automatically recovered from cross section library of ScadaPro and

are presented in Table A2.1.1. Concerning analysis with Sap2000 and Abaqus software,

section properties of ScadaPro library are used for comparison reasons.

For the analysis, Saint Venant theory is employed.
